Rare Saxophone Sells for over $12,000

Musical instruments are often “hot” sellers on eBay. Recently, QuikDrop, the new eBay drop off store in North Olmsted, sold a vintage saxophone for a customer for over $12,000. This hidden treasure was a Selmer Mark VI Gold Tenor Saxophone with the case and mouthpiece. It was made from 1954 to 1972 and most of the big name sax players use or have used a Mark VI saxophone. A sax that is over 50 years old and in good condition is rare!

QuikDrop owner Margaret McNamara said, “I knew this item was rare and valuable but had no idea it would sell for over $12,000. The customer who brought it in was overjoyed at the number of bidders and the final sale price of her item. The customer initially was going to place an ad in the newspaper and sell her item for $1,000 and then decided to try QuikDrop.” The item went up for a 7 day auction beginning on Sunday evening. Two minutes after the item was launched for auction, there was an immediate bid of $7,000. There were over 90 bidders watching and inquiring about this item throughout the week, including several dealers.

The beauty of eBay is the number of buyers that are out there. There are over 150 million people registered on eBay and 95% of them are buyers. The majority of people do not have the time or expertise to list their items on eBay. QuikDrop handles everything from researching the item, taking high resolution photos, writing a detailed description, monitoring the e-mails and phone inquiries during the auction, collecting payment and packaging and shipping the item to the winning bidder. “It’s all about market value and this item was in high demand. The most exciting time of this auction was in the last 5 minutes. The item skyrocketed with multiple bids from $7,000 to the winning bid of $12,099”, Susan McNamara Packer said.
